A brief break We just completed some great shows. July 3rd was 2 shows worth of grassy goodness at the Balcony Bar & Grill plus the Summit. Long night. July 4th was a very very very very very cold night complete with snow at the skinny cabin around 12,000 feet. On to this week, we played a great set at boomtown, a fundraiser for Durango's Burning Man Camp, that was good times, late nights, and fun fun fun. A really cool taper has been recording our shows and posting them to archive, so please make sure you keep up on them. Another podcast will be coming soon, so we go that going on. Other than that we're gonna enjoy summer until we pick things back up in September. For up to the minute updates and stuff like that, check our twitter or facebook pages! written by: eric posted on: July 13, 2010 |

Ridgeway The Ridgeway River Festival was a great time, a smaller event than Fibark, but no less fun. We played with a stand in bass player who did a fantastic job, thanks to Mike Enriquez. Also got to meet the Denver based band James & The Devil who kicked ass. All in all a great trip, thanks to our intrepid soundman, Ryan Williams, the sound was fantastic. written by: eric posted on: June 27, 2010 |

Stinky Water! We just had an awesome healing time at Pagosa Hot Springs. We played a 6-9pm gig, sure it wasn't *exactly* our demographic, but people had fun, we had fun and all went well. Following the show we all got to kick it in the hot springs till the weeee hours and are left feeling... rubbery. written by: eric posted on: June 24, 2010 |

News, Blues, Booze We just returned from Salida where we played at the Victoria Tavern for both nights of the FIBARK Whitewater festival. Awesome time, great people, the Vic is truly a wonderful experience for any band, especially the semi haunted beer saturated ex brothel upstairs that serves as the band's residence. I'm fairly certain that this dbag with a guitar is going to go record an album there.
That being said, we play Pagosa Hot Springs tomorrow night (weds) and then on to the Ridgeway River Festival this weekend. A taper made a pretty sweet recording of our last show at the summit, you can download it HERE. Cheers for all the good times! written by: eric posted on: June 22, 2010 |

Summatime! It's official it's summer... look for Aftergrass on the river, and look for us in strange places. We'll be jamming downtown Saturday night, listen for us and us you'll find. written by: eric posted on: May 28, 2010 |

Cave Rave! Caverave isn't a rave, and it's not really IN a cave (although there is a cave present) it's more like a bunch of close friends go to a very remote and secluded spot with beautiful cliffs and canyons and we have a party. We bring generators for the band, lightshows for the freakies, and good times for all. We don't advertise it, hell we don't mention on the website until after it has passed.. better that way. We are careful to respect the place, and leave no trace of our presence apart from the lingering smell of insanity. It is a great time where we come together, enjoy each other's company, and in my case, sleep in my tent till 3pm.
Here are some pics!

Inbetween Days Sometimes it's nice to have a little break, other times you sit and gnaw on your fingernails waiting to play again. We're hoppin to get recording, and for our summer to begin. We'll be relatively quiet through May, but look for more fun stuff coming in June. Check out my solo projects (including a cover on a new aftergrass song) http://erickiefer.com/?listen=yes and keep your eyes peeled for our updated summer schedule.
On a side note, we keep seeing videos being shot, cameras flashin, all that jazz, but we never get to see the results, if you've got some shots or clips of Aftergrass, please post and tag them or just drop us a line :)

Gunnison, Telluride, Podcast Great shows in Gunnison and Telluride. Thanks to everyone who came out with bells on. We started in Gunnison on Wednesday, visiting with our buddy Alex and rockin a fun show at the brewery. Something about the crowd up there.. y'all kids get rowdy. On Saturday we headed to Telluride where we played apres ski at the base of the gondola and then a late night show at the Last Dollar saloon. Both shows went great and we met some fun folks, thanks for being there. We stuck around to ski on sunday for the last day of the season, attended the infamous hooligan party, watched Drew Emmitt jam on the mountain with durango songwriting hero Benny Galloway on bass. Good times. Next up, the Aftergrass podcast. It will be various live recordings, studio oddities and other fun stuff. Soon come mon, soon come.written by: eric posted on: April 05, 2010 |

Second Leg I think that some college or other higher education institution should offer us honorary degrees in fitting a lot of stuff into a small space. Do they have degrees in such a thing? So we crammed it up to Leadville, loaded in at Bobbie's place and had dinner at Quincy's. Quincy's is this sorta Leadville institution. Your options on the menu are how big of a steak you want and how you want it cooked. Butter and sour cream on your potato? That's it. Apparently they have veggie lasagna but I don't want to think about that. I love that place. The show at Bobbie's was one of our best, just had a really good time playing, I think we were very comfortable. Thanks Leadville! Then we hung out with some... ahem, interesting Leadvillians. Yep... that was weird. The next day we put-putted our way to Boulder with a stop at chez Demmon (thanks for the eats you guys! and ps. lisa got her beer in one piece) Boulder was cool. You know, I must confess that I sort of had a bad image of Boulder. Never having visited, I was expecting to be assaulted with tofu the moment I walked into town despite the fact that we were indeed carpooling and being very green. Well I didn't get assaulted with tofu, and I was left feeling like a heel for my earlier misconceptions about this town which seemed just like a lot of other towns. The crowd was fun there, dancy folks who were havin a good time... Ok so I'm a heel. Now comes the interesting part. We left Boulder after our show at about 2am and drove straight through to Telluride. We drove in shifts and chased the moon across Colorado (the moon-set was beautiful by the way) to arrive at Telluride around 9am. We all slept for a few hours then set up on our friend Neko's porch under the beautiful peaks and played three sets of fun music for a bunch of rowdy and fun people. thanks you guys, that was a hoot. After the show we went to the New Sheridan and had a few beers and eventually made it back and... here we are! Gunnison, Colorado on Weds the 31st. Cheers!written by: eric posted on: March 29, 2010 |

1st Leg... awesome Jackson was awesome, a great show at the mangy moose. We played freedom of 76 for some philly kids, that was funny. Following day we followed the town downhill at 43 North. Despite the fact that we were competing with a nice sunny day and a gorgeous outdoor patio, we had a lot of fun. Thanks to Rob for stickin your neck out and getting us the show. Thanks to Dustin for the place to crash and the great times! Noah at the Moose, great job with sound it was fun! Heading back to Colorado, we stayed with the Mattice family who got us some lift tickets and put us up for a great time in the Aspen area. Over to Salida for St. Patty's day, we played a really fun show with ample carbombs. Molly and Suzi, thanks for the fun night. The next day we headed up to Leadville to prime the bar for next week's show... Memories of this event are hazy at best and should probably be left in the hazy pit rather than recalled here. Denver, Colorado was awesome, showed up at the new Quixote's kind of uncertain about what was going on. There were 5 bands there and a few had been sorta double booked. The beauty of Quixote's and the other Bianchi bars is that no matter what happens, they just make it work. We played from 12:00-2:15 and had a blast. Thanks to Courtney & friends for coming to our shows, thanks to Jay, and hell thanks to Whiskey Tango, the really cool band who also played that night. We ended up attending an after party with them and playing bluegrass tunes till the wee hours. Great times, guys, thank you! The following night we headed to Washpark Grill and had a great show, but we were a little bit on the tired side from the great party the previous night. A long trip back to D-town where we stay for a couple days until we head back out on the road. Aftergrass managed to fit 5 people, Mackie PA speakers (the big ones), mixing board, 2 monitors, 3 amps, a drumset, 4 pairs of skis, 1 snowboard, ski/snowboard boots, poles, and personal gear into a Dodge Carevan all wheel drive minivan. There wasn't even room for a fart in there, but we made it work. Leadville's on friday, kids!written by: eric posted on: March 23, 2010 |

good times on the road we're having a blast... we gained an extra show being in the right place at the right time.. jackson is awesome. Telluride We had a really fun show at the Llama in Telluride thanks to the party people who came out for the show. The Llama is a pretty damn cool place. try the duck burrito. in other news.. we're doing one more little show sans Jesse, this will be opening for the notorious WHURM at the Summit on Feb 19th. We're trying to get our hands on a certain guitarist who is gonna make it fun. Otherwise we're just gonna pick a banjo. Speaking of picking a banjo, i wrote a new song last night. Check it outwritten by: eric posted on: February 16, 2010 |

Whew It was pretty wild playing a show with 2 new members... for one we had Neal from the sweats on drums, then we had me playing guitar, that qualifies as a new member right? We had trouble locking in with short notice and the show wasn't your average aftergrass show to be sure, but we learned a lot, and we'll always do our best to make something happen under any circumstances. Thanks also to Aaron Lombardo who sat in on drums for a few songs. "Normal" Aftergrass returns at La Montoya in Telluride on Feb 12th. written by: eric posted on: February 03, 2010 |

Aftergrass Adapts So Jesse got an offer to work the x-games in aspen. no self respecting ski industry dork can pass up such an offer, so off he goes. we decided that we could get a sub guitarist and teach them our setlist, but that's a lot of work for a guitarist, so we figured let's get a sub drummer and i'll play guitar. aftergrass like you've never seen us, c'mon out for fun in the sun. written by: eric posted on: January 30, 2010 |

Gunnison, Crested Butte, and Keller! The Gunnison show was great, good people in that town and they like to get down. Thanks Alex for the place to stay :) Between Gunnison and CB we got some skiing in and took a band field trip to see one of our favorites, Keller Williams at the Belly Up in Aspen. (Thanks Mattices!) Rocked the beav then headed back to Crested Butte to open for Trampled By Turtles at the Eldo. We've always sorta caught a rough break when we've played in Crested Butte. Great people and lotsa fun, but just never generated a buzz, usually played on something like like a tuesday. Well, that's all fixed now, we played a packed eldo, then enjoyed the rest of the night, slept a bit (thanks CB) and skiied. We manage to have a lot of fun on the road, and do some great bonding things... Skiing together (ok bob snowboards) Bowling (oh hell yeah eljebowl), having drinks, having fun, then we get to play music too! damn i love playing in this band. written by: eric posted on: January 18, 2010 |

ski tour goodies Leadville and Salida were great, thanks to the lovely Bobbie in Leadville for the best tasting PBR there is (maybe it's the altitude?) and a great time. Thanks to Molly and all the folks at the Vic in Salida, we had a blast, and we really needed that second night in the hotel, you're rad. Skiing at Monarch was good good good, and we're ready for Gunnison tomorrow night. whooooo hoooooooo!written by: eric posted on: January 12, 2010 |

2010 the path goes ever onward, and shit on a shingle, it's fun. Our new years show was a blast, a packed house in sweaty silverton, 9000 feet above the sea. we stayed up late, we had lots of fun, we slipped and slid down icy roads. the night after new years we played the summit for what we thought was going to be a dead night. It wasn't it was really fun. We played with Diabolical Sound Platoon who has added live instrumentation to their act, it's fantastic. We all did a jam together at the end that was fun too! Up north this week to lead vegas, salida, and hopefully some epic skiing.

Winter Tour Dates We're putting together our Winter tour right now, trying to focus on ski towns. We've got a new trailer (that needs some kinda ski storage shelf inside so we don't have to pull all the skis out to get to our gear! brainstorm!) Our summer was great, Blues and Brews, Silverton Jamboree, Wine Festival, 4c Harvest Festival, and countless fun bar shows made for a fun summer. One of our few shows in October is going to be really fun, an outdoor show at Fort Lewis College Ampitheater, a great venue, that's Thursday, the 8th.

Our first flyer
We had a great time at the Wines of the San Juan Harvest Festival. Get a beautiful desert setting, great people, close to 2000 guests and a few thousand gallons of wine together, and good times always follow. In other news, I've been cleaning house on some of our files, old flyers, songs, contracts, you name it. I found this, our first flyer. May of 2003 at Steamworks. Was Jesse even old enough to be in Steamworks then?written by: eric posted on: September 28, 2009 |

Nice writeup... The Blues and Brews booklet had a great writeup.. Think we'll start having to use this one... There's a cool little college town just south of here that is fertile ground for live music. Durango's Aftergrass emerged at the top of the heap and has been making forays throughout the rockies these days, delivering their eclective, stylistically diverse rave-ups to unsuspecting mountain towns. They leave legions of new, devoted fans in their wake. Described as "psychedelic rock with a pinch of hip hop bluegrass and a hint of funk to boot," Aftergrass' bottom line is your good time. This summer they've been working on new material and have a terrific CD you really must havewritten by: eric posted on: September 21, 2009 |

Blues and Brews Very exciting time in the life of Aftergrass. We're heading to Telluride to be a part of the Blues and Brews festival, performing one of the Friday Night Juke Joints. It's a great honor to be part of such a historic festival. I'm just sorta speechless about the whole thing, so I'll leave it at that. Hope to see you there. written by: eric posted on: September 17, 2009 |

Great week, canceled show We played the main stage at the Silverton Jamboree, it was a great time, we went on before the rain and before Tony Furtado (who kicked ass) after that we played the Juke Joint at the Miner's Tavern in Silverton, it was also sweet. Unfortunately the Miner's tavern doesn't want us there on the 4th because apparently we bring a "rough crowd" although, if I remember correctly it was some local Silverton gals smashing each other's faces into things the last time we played there, we didn't bring them. Then there was the dildo who starts fights at all of our Silverton shows, a rabid drunken local who has no business breathing, let alone hanging out at bars. Oh well. We're going to move the party (and consequently the bar tabs) to private land in the hills so we can avoid getting the public lands people angry. Then we went over to Telluride for the bluegrass festival where we played both the bubble lounge and the brown dog. Great times. We were very excited to play to a new crowd.
We were scheduled to play the Derailed on June 25th to make up for the double booking that happened last month. They made up for it alright, and double booked us again. They've double booked lots of folks. They've done some shady stuff to other local bars. They think they're the shit. I think that we should actively boycott them, maybe they'll go under and be forced to sell the business to someone who is humble enough to do business in a small town.
On July 8th we'll be at the Summit (a local music venue without a shitty attitude) opening up for the Stereofidelics, a really cool band from Asheville, NC. After that we're going to regroup, write some new material, do some chillin, and get ready for the exciting end of the summer. written by: eric edited on: June 24, 2009 |

Keep your eye on it, we'll be adding new products consistently. We're heading off to Silverton to play the Silverton Jamboree, a groovin festival 9000 feet above the sea. We'll be playing two shows there, one on the main stage, one late night show at the juke joints. Weekend passes are $90, and Juke Joint passes are $15. In other news, we're going to be featured on the world's best radio station, KDUR on the Music Lesson program Friday, June 12th at 5:30 PM mst. You can listen here in Durango on 91.9fm or you can listen anywhere in the world at the KDUR WEBSITE

Some old funny stuff
I'm doing some late spring cleaning through Aftergrass stuff over the last 8 years, old flyers, old recordings, some funny old photos, just some funny stuff in general... I stumbled across one of the funnier items... well two of them. The story goes that Kelly and I were playing with Dialogue, touring around Colorado and we ended up at the Eldo in Crested Butte and it was a very slow night, to make matters worse the hiphop acts we were opening for shows up with no turntables... (what? yep) so basically we're left with a small crowd and we ended up just playing some backing beats for the rapper for a while but then it just got to the point where.. well you know that point. So we were trying to think of something to do, and we decide, hey let's play What's Inside (the aftergrass song jesse wrote)... I didn't have a vocal mic in the early Dialogue days, so I told Kelly I'd write the words down for him... I wrote them on this super small guest check. You could hardly see anything in the dim light and basically it took me giving them to him to realize there was no way in hell he could possibly read a single word of what I wrote. Oh well.. Whatcha gonna do!?written by: eric posted on: June 08, 2009 |

Live CD is Finished Well, it's done. I think.. No really.. it is done. We're working on an easy way to sell the CD from this website, rather than waiting for CD baby, iTunes, and all that nonsense. We should have a fancy pants shopping cart ready to roll in the next day or so, stand by! written by: eric posted on: June 03, 2009 |

Derailed Show Canceled Due to something or other, our derailed show for Friday night has been canceled. Turns out they double booked us and our friends A-Dub-Rock Band with Tony Culture. To keep it all smooth, we're skipping our spot and heading for the Battle Of The Animas party on Monday at Mild to Wild. Catch some or all of us at Moe's Starlight Lounge Friday at 6.

Big ups to the rental shop We played the Purgatory rental shop party monday night, after a 1 or 2 year break from playing this event, we were pleased to see that the rental shop parties harder than any other department up there. They don't ski around in silly clothes, they don't act silly, they just party hearty. I don't know if this was planned well or we are getting old, but the cops didn't break us up, disappointingly. Apparently we were warned. Unflippin real. Great times, see you degenerate freakos next year!

What a weekend... Well... It all started out kinda of neat. The wind was blowing so hard on Friday that it put an eerie, ominous haze over the entire area, we got the 5 of us and all of our gear skillfully tetris'd into the astrovan and headed up the pass. Near hesperus, the engine went pop and we were sol. We ended up hobbling the car back to Durango (all down hill) and getting into two cars, my jeep and kelly's truck (neither completely roadworthy) and reloading all the gear and setting out again, an hour behind but determined to play our show in Telluride. By the time we reached Mancos it began to rain mud. Yep, rained mud. All the dust in the air mixed with all the rain in the air. Mud rain. Far out. We continued our journey and shortly past Delores it was a whiteout allllll the way to Lizard Head Pass. We picked our way through he whiteout, made it over the pass, and on the way down, ended up sliding out on a bend, and sailing off the edge of the road and about 30 feet down a very steep hill, landing in a powder puff. Suffice to say, we had to cancel our gig, but the good people at the Bubble Lounge in Telluride took great care of us, Thanks Guys!
After a long night in Telluride and some uneasy sleep, we got the jeep towed out (a project) and headed home for our strater show. We set up, soundchecked, had a great time but had a pretty thin crowd, although we were very happy about the show in general. For one, it was a show, not a gig at a bar, that was different for us. We played all original music apart from a few covers in our acoustic set. We played an acoustic set! Jesse switched to banjo, I played guitar and Bob brought his upright bass. That was a fun thing for us. Scottie, our good friend from the Summit across the street put us on the guestlist for the Pato Banton show, so by the time we got broken down and loadded out, we headed to the Summit and wittled the night away listening to classic Pato (go, Pato, aftergrass is tellin ya to) All in all it was a bizzare weekend of dramatic near death car ballet, telluride oddness, a surreal show in a haunted theatre (Shhhh), and a great reggae show. All in all a great big funtime. Next show: 4/20 with A DUB ROCK BAND, kickass Reggae. Following that, April 23rd with the Voodoo Organist. April 4th - Strater Theatre We're playing a show at the Strater Theatre on April 4th. Proceeds with benefit Conscious Creative Cultural Connection, a local organization dedicated to uniting community by embracing nature, sharing inspiration and celebrating creativity. We'll most likely be shootng video and/or recording the show, this could be the long awaited live album, and YOU can be on it, hollaring in the background. It would mean a lot for us if you were there!
April 4th, 8pm! It will be the most unique Aftergrass show you've ever seen. Pato Banton plays the Summit afterwards, so it is going to be a great night of music!
