Second Life TV Show...
So i've known these crazy french kids for a few years, they play groove oriented techno kinda music that they make on the fly. You can check them out at their website www.alienhearts.com. So the other day they asked me to do some voice overs for them, and I didn't know for what, so I just read the script in the prescribed voices and went with it. Turns out they've made a pilot for a TV show shot entirely in the video game/ social network/ utopian vision of reality that is called Second Life. It's pretty trippy, I do all the voices that don't sound like a chick or a french guy... Watch The Video On YouTube... fun stuff... I've never tried second life, I've always been a little too busy with first life, but hey, maybe it'd be fun... maybe I'll go set up a second life taco stand that sells aftergrass downloads...

It Has Arrived
Why so quiet the last few weeks? We've been waiting with bated breath for our debut CD to arrive from duplication. It is here! We sort of shot ourselves in the foot with the CD release part, unwilling to book it until we had the CDs in our hands. This resulted in us scrambling for a last minute gig somewhere. In the meantime, we're going to start selling the CDs right here on our website, stay tuned for the link.

Cheers for beers!

the hip hop connection.
We were paid a visit by the infamous JT from Dialogue, the hip-hop band I played in from 2004 until 2006 and kelly played in 2005-2006. Dialogue doesn't officially exist at the moment, but you can check out their website at www.dialoguemusic.com and you can buy their cd from iTunes. We've always had a good relationship with local hip hop acts and in a few instances backed up local emcees. If you subscribe to the idea that all music is connected and compatible, it would seem natural that we share shows and back up hip hop acts whenever we get the chance. We're glad to do it again this New Years Eve when we'll play with Durango's Artikle who used to be called "necessary noncents" back in the day. We've played with these guys for years and they performed on our 2004 webcast show. I'm re-reading this and trying to figure out what I'm trying to say.. I suppose it is just to say, if you're hating on any one type of music, you're likely missing something.

cheers for beers... see you on new years

New Year's Eve Show
I mentioned this before, and I'll let you know again, our New Years Eve show will be happening in Silverton, Colorado at the Miner's Tavern. For each of the last 4 years we've played a show in Silverton on New Year's. The venue has changed but luckily the crowd comes with us. We sort of stumbled on the Miner's Tavern by accident when our normal haunt didn't book us for the 4th of July. Rather than not play in Silverton on the 4th as we have many years in the past, we moved the show to the Miner's Tavern, where they treated us very well, had a nice big stage, and had a large room adjoining the bar. This large room is where we're having the new year's celebration. When I say celebration, I mean complete rockin candlewax on the nipples throwdown. This is the wildest New Year's celebration in southern Colorado without a doubt (yep, we beat the new years potato and pork eating contest in alamosa) People go a particular kind of nuts in Silverton, you have to see it to believe it. Book your hotels now, apparently they're getting quite full. It's WAY too cold to sleep in your car, and your drunk ass doesn't want to drive over the icy pass back to durango, trust me. We'll be working out all the details this evening, but as far as I know it will be the Good Neighbors opening up the show around 7, the Antibodies playing at 8:30ish, Artikle at 9:30 and Aftergrass in the neighborhood of 10:30 until they shut us down. I'll get links posted to all of these bands' websites and myspace pages and stuff. The promoter of the show is bringing lights, sound, smoke and confetti or something. If you want to spend your New Year's NOT dancing your ass off to wild, sex-crazed music, don't come.

In other news, I got the artwork proofs back from the duplication of the CD. There were some color correction issues that we'll need to work out, but other than that we're moving right along. We expect to hear the mastered copy of the CD this week.

Yes another news story...
Well Happy Thanksgiving everyone, I'm about to stick my hand up a turkey's bum, so I got that going for me.

Ok so you know our song "War with Utah, Not Iraq" ? (If you don't it'll be on the CD) I figured that since it is due to be released, I should make some small attempt to explain it. I take the blame for writing the song and would like to first say war's wrong no matter what, especially an unprovoked invasion of another country (or state) The song is also not directed at the good people of Utah, just their government.

That being said... watch Watch This Little Gem Luckily our own experiences with the police of rural Utah didn't go this far, but it could have in a second. We just had to have our vehicle ripped to pieces because the cop was searching for, and i quote, "large sums of money, alcohol, drugs, or DEAD BODIES" yep.. dead bodies. We were pulled over going 61 in a 60 because "we thought you didn't have a front license plate" we very clearly had a front license plate. Why do Utah's cops act like this? Plain and simple.. because they can. Why can they? Because they're backed by an oppressive theocratic government that is suspicious of anyone who doesn't share its religious or political beliefs. You know, it is America first, your state second... If there wasn't a cohesive federal government, there'd still be slaves in the south, and Utah would be too fucked up to imagine. I can just see Orrin Hatch with 10 12-year-old wives. I think that the actions of Utah police officers are in contradiction of our bill of rights, which is a challenge to federal authority. The last time a group of states challenged federal authority we burnt their capitals and kicked their grandma-humpin asses. My point being... A war to topple the extremist regime in Utah would be about as just as invading Iraq, so why doesn't our government save money and time and just invade Utah. There's no sense flying half way around the world to fight religious extremism when we can do it right here. There's a place in America where the rights laid down by our forefathers don't apply. That is not good. War with Utah, not Iraq.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Hilarious news story... again
So I was reading through some headlines and see this one about this kid getting busted for schlinging pot at a McDonald's drive-thru. That's not the funny part.. The funny part was the news people talking about the fact that people expect wholesome activity to happen at McDonalds and that someone selling pot at a McDonalds was an outrage. They interviewed several members of the community who said the same thing. Now... let's just think about this for a minute. How many people died this year from obesity related heart disease or diabetes? How many people died this year from smoking pot? I'd say that McDonalds would be hurting society less by selling ONLY pot, but hey, that's just me. And don't get me wrong, I think that consenting adults should be allowed to choose to eat McDonalds food all they want. Hell, the stuff is delicious but I try to avoid it. In McDonalds defense: they have begun a program to rid their menu of transfats by 2008. They stopped using styrofoam years ago due to public pressure. Now if they'd just start selling organic ganja in reaction to public pressure, that'd be great....

Well, someone had to see it first...
There it is... the first peak you've have at our album cover. It's acrylic on a 2x6 by local artist Steve Ladin. It was originally orange, we're the ones who made it romulan green...

any of you who have followed the happenings of aftergrass in the past few months have probably heard us say "we're almost done with our cd" or "recording is complete, now we just need to fix a few things" or "we're done mixing... almost" and other such half-truths. well this time, it is really done, the forms are filled out, the artwork is set in stone and the songs are as good as they're going to be. All in all, we're pleased. The CD is a good reflection of all of us at this point in time in this place in the universe. I don't want to make us sound bad by saying "this cd was 5 years in the making" because it wasn't... the band started over with a new bass player about close to two years ago, and recording on this cd started about a year ago. That being said, this cd is the culmination of 5 good years of playing music for dancing people, having a great time and watching each other grow and change (hopefully for the better)

We'd like to thank local artists Steve Ladin and Charlie Adams for their great work on the CD cover and inner booklet.

It's in the mail, the finished product should be back to us in about 3 weeks. You'll be able to buy it via our website, myspace, or the itunes music store if you're so inclined. thanks to everyone who's helped us get this far.. the trip's just starting...

Thanks, KDUR
We'd like to thank KDUR and the infamous (what does IN famous mean?) Bryant Liggett for a great time at Who Night. The Who is one of those bands that you don't really find any of us listening to on a daily basis and doing a few of their songs really opened our eyes to what they were all about. At least our version... We started sparks so loud that none of us could hear anything except screeeching guitar and mandolin... The drumset was interesting for me, not much room for adjustment and I ended up playing sitting much higher off the snare than i'm used to but... sure was fun. The Seeker was a fun tune too, nice and loud.... Thanks to the Lawn Chair Kings for use of their gear.
