1st Annual Rappland Music Festival & Voodoo Music We were stoked to have the The Voodoo Organist back to town last night, and for a monday, man, some folks came out! Great times like always at the ol' Summit, thanks to them for opening. We played at 12,000 feet (how high were you?) at the first annual rappland super kickass rockfest on saturday. It was a pretty amazing event, best venue ever. Thanks to the Rapps, Knucka, Doug Eagle, and anyone else who helped this thing happen, we need more stuff like that.
We're shipping off the CD last week and it should be back in the first week of october, 2008.

1st Annual Vallecito Music Festival We had the honor of closing down the 1st Annual Vallecito Music Festival last Saturday, what a hoot. All in all 5 bands played to a rowdy crowd of fun lovin folks. It was one of those events that exemplifies the spirit of this area, you know, freedom, independence, and fun. (rather than some yuppie in a mudless SUV who is powered by some texan who just moved here and named himself Durango Joe - in otherwords... a complete dick.) I'd like to just interject here, that we've got nothing against texans, they're nice people. We're not texist, it's how certain texans act that give all texans bad names, but trust me, we do this on a person by person basis. Some of us are even in serious relationships with texans called biscuit. By the way, if you want a cup of coffee, there are several great places in town where you can get your coffee without a bunch of jesus thrown in your face, they are Jitter's Java (the booths on 8th and camino in in Wildcat liquor parking), Steaming Bean, Durango Coffee Company, or Magpie's. They all serve up some great local coffee, and best of all, you can go there if you're gay. Ok, now that that "go the fuck back to texas and take yer jesus with you" rant is over, let's get back to this music festival... It was a wonderful time, dogs running about, a large bonfire, plenty of beer and sweet smells in the air, we'd like to thank everyone responsible for this, and if names are slipping out of my head, you know who you are. It's nice to think in these days of the snoots turning durango into the dog leash gestapo headquarters, there's still a place where dogs run free... Ain't no racism... so I just read that the african american community is upset about michael vick's sentence for dogfighting. A quote: Fans at Playmakers Barber Shop in Midtown said they still support Vick, because they feel he is innocent, and that he is a victim of a racist judicial system.
"It's bad. I don't condone it at all, but the punishment is too severe, (they’re ruining) a man's career," said barber Dontrell Mapp.
Could I be the first to say that this has absolutely nothing to do with race whatsoever? This is about the torture of animals, not about race. As a pit bull owner, I'm a firm believer that owners of malicious pits should be pistol whipped and thrown down a rocky cliff. I'm not some animal rights peta freak either, but c'mon!!! This guy was raising fighting dogs, beating them, and in some cases hanging them. Let's leave race out of this, and chuck that asshole down a rocky cliff... written by: eric posted on: August 21, 2007
This, that, and the other... A friend sent us this today, you type in text and it says it using samples from hundreds of songs. It says "aftergrass" pretty sweet(ly)
We've got a little internet radio station called steal this music where you can hear our music as well as music of our friends, and some other random people who just wanted their stuff played, click here to listen (you need itunes or winamp or something that plays streams)
We updated the songs on our myspace page to include some of the new stuff that will be on our upcoming cd. The cd release date SHOULD be in the neighborhood of september 15th.

Speaking of which... Speaking of cool independent businesses, we played a really fun show at the Wines of the San Juan a sweet winery & vineyard in northern New Mexico. It was a great night, we played some new stuff, had Josh Arnold (Happy Birthday, Josh) come up and belt some songs with us that sounded great and we actually got a decent recording of the event that will eventually end up on the archive. stay tuned for that one.
So you might ask yourself what do all fun bass players do when they're not thumpin a crowd? They bounce out of pickup trucks on pogo sticks in the early morning light at vineyards, that's what. The wine was great too. Thanks to all of you who were there, and especially the family who made it all happen. We'll work hard on getting the recording posted, but right now, it's bedtime. oh yeah... has anyone seen Bob? Don't forget, this coming friday, july 27th we're at the summit in downtown durango. written by: Anabelle & Jager posted on: July 22, 2007
Discovery Channel study on complete freaks. We don't know these people. That one guy sort of looks like our bass player, but I assure you it isn't... written by: Cowlick McGee edited on: July 22, 2007
We need to stop homogenization... In case you didn't know "homogenization" is the process of making all things the same. Let's say you're in Georgia, then you go to Colorado. What's to eat? Applebees, McDonald's, Outback Steak House, Starbucks Coffee? What about Regional cuisine? In Durango, we're very lucky to have independent, locally owned restaurants and coffee shops. Eating breakfast at Denny's while the Durango Diner exists is a crime against all that which is good. Eating dinner or lunch at Applebee's instead of Nini's or Ken & Sue's is equally horrific. It is just a shame that these chains haven't closed in Durango due to lack of interest. Why hasn't this happened?
It might not be the fact that people are coming here, it might just be who is coming here. They come in brand new SUVs that have no mud or dirt on them. Despite our lack of water here in the southwest, they wash their cars weekly. They don't like dogs so they appeal to the city council to increase the fines for leash violations. They live in condos and seldom even know the people next door. Rather than sports like mountain biking or rafting that coexist with nature, they build golf courses, ruining thousands of acres of pristine land. After all, it is so hard to close a big real estate deal on a mountain bike. They need all of the amenities of the city, but are too tiny to actually live in a city. Some of them build large second homes here, ruining yet more forest for a house they spend 2 weeks a year in. They want more people, more malls, more crowds, and less character and they're ruining this town? What can we do about it? Frankly I don't really know, why not email me with suggestions? I want my laid back town back again. I want to chase the new-urbanites right back to the suburbs of LA where they belong. We can't just sit here and watch as our town is destroyed by drones. written by: eric posted on: July 15, 2007
Yes... another fantastic gig in Silverton... I don't know what it is about Silverton. They're ski bums & we're ski bums? They drink enough to make us sound good? We import a large crowd of freaks? Not sure, but it seems like whenever we play Silverton, regardless of the venue it is packed full of wild rowdy people. We'd like to thank the Miner's Tavern for having us and treating us just fantastic. We'll play that joint any time... We need to thank Ryan the soundman, who was working for peanuts and still did a fantastic job making us sound better than we actually are... There is a recording of sorts but I believe it has some clipping in it, we'll see! So at this point we're just concentrating on the CD. We've got some upcoming shows here and there, mainly the Summit on July 27. We'll see you there!
