Truely the Soul Vacuum?
Our friend and semi-mentor Sand used to play a gig in Farmington from time to time. He described playing music in this town as "a soul vacuum" Asking him to clarify, he simply said "people just aren't into music, it could be the jukebox, or it could be a live performer, it is all the same..." Well. I hate to say it, but I find this statement to be completely true. The folks in Farmington seem more utilitarian, concerned with work, family, and having a beer or two. It is most definately not a music town. Neil Peart, the drummer for Rush described Farmington as "the seedy underbelly of the southwest". I played a show at the same place before with Dialogue who is FROM Farmington.. Same results, different night.

I'd love to see us proved wrong, but I doubt that will happen. It was hilarious, after doing a version of David Bowie's "Fame" that was so funky you could smell it to a mostly empty dance floor, we were baffled. We tried a few more of our funkiest tunes. Nothing. After the show, the DJ played Justin Timberlake's new single and the dance floor suddenly filled up. The crowd was actually pretty good and we killed it at the door, so that worked out just fine, it's just not a music town. In Colorado it seems like you need to play a funeral dirge to get people to STOP dancing. I've played shows in Albuquerque filled with dancing bodies, it must be a Farmington thing. Despite the good pay, it just seems like it isn't worth it to play down there. I'd love some of you 505ers to prove me wrong, but it will most likely be a different band you're impressing, as I don't think we'll play Farmington again.

Negative Nancy!
reading our last blog entry, I suppose I sound very negative. Odd times for sure, and I'm not retracting anything, but I'd like to write a nice blog. It is Halloween season, but I think it is going to be weird. It is friday and nothing is going on, tommorow night is the actual halloween party and then tuesday is the day on the real drunks are out? that's pretty much what I'm guessing. The Bob is in Vegas, so nothing is happening right this second. Well i'm sure a lot of something is happening all over the world, but the world of aftergrass is calm today. Kelly skied at wolf creek, the bastard. Other than that.. same ol same ol.

Check this, we did some rafting earlier, just drums, drumwife, and manager of sorts on the boat (the green one, grassy green) Cheers for beers!

Dead bears, cool water, jazz trio, farmington.
Well the other night we stopped by a friend's house who had a dead bear in the yard. It turned out the cub had climbed the electric pole, hit the transformer and went boom. It sucked. In other news... you should check out this water company, Biota, who is located up the road in Ouray, Colorado. They're putting their water in bottles that are made from corn. It's pretty much plastic, but it is made from the carbon in corn, rather than the carbon in a petroleum product. You can check them out at www.biotaspringwater.com That's pretty bitchin. If you're a student and the ol' fort leisure, our drummer and bass player will be playing a little dinner gig up there as a jazz trio (with keys) on weds from 5 to 7 (that's this weds now...) Check them out. The farmington gig approaches, come on down.
cheers

Water is up! 7800 CFS on the Animas River in Town...
You may or may not know, we've got some raft freaks in this band, so the idea of the Animas river breaking its banks in the north valley and passing the record for yesterday's date by more than double made us giggle. We've been trying to record, but we've had some problems with the protools system lately. Not really sure what is going on there, seems like plugins are disappearing. I think the ol' g5 (the machine running protools) needs a thorough washin. I'll just open it up,dump some water in there and hope for the best. The river is down to a healthy 5000 cfs today of freezing cold muddy water complete with trees, logs, dead cows and other fun items. We're going rafting. This guy in the picture by the way, isn't any of us, he's just some dude playing in a wave. I took his picture.. bwuhahaha.

It is fall.... no bitchin if you will not vote...
We've booked a gig at the Summit on Friday, November 17th. The canceled show in Pagosa has been dealt with, we've rebooked at the Buffalo bar for November 3rd. Farmington keeps approaching. We've been practicing a lot but it seems like we just get really drunk and play a few songs then wander off and fiddle with something or other. I suppose that is just fine. Hey check this out. I'm not sure how blatant I'm going to be about this, but probably increasingly blatant as the date approaches. Let's just say for now, if you're in Colorado you NEED to registerer to vote and make sure your baked ass gets down to the voting booth and help change some of our stupider laws. Statewide election day is on November 7th, 10 days before you'll get it in the ear from us. Early voting begins October 23. Specifically Amendment 44 which will reduce crime statewide by legalizing marijuana for adults, freeing up law enforcement to attack the exploding meth problem, the highest domestic violence rate in the country, and the ultra drunk drivers returning from Aftergrass shows.

But don't take my word for it, please visit This Website which details all of the 2006 Ballot proposals. Listen, the reason things are run stupidly in the county, state, and federal government is because all you so call "enlightened" youth don't fucking vote, while the crotchety, old, bible thumping, fag hating, cross burning dildos are the first ones in line. We need to take government back from the old, and we'll never do it if you dickwipes sit in front of your bong instead of voting. I swear, the people I've heard bitch the loudest about the government haven't voted in years. I hope they get thrown in jail by the gestapo they did nothing to prevent.

there... vented.

New Pictures, A Band Bio Finally
So we finally wrote a band bio, it was just something we had to do. It's kinda cheesy, but it's pretty much 'press kit material' or whatever. Also, you can check out a whole buncha new pics in our picture section. Actually, they're probably old pics, I've just been digging around and have found a bunhca pics that should probably go up. There are some more that I need track down, and they'll be up soon, check back often. Recording continues, I'm putting some claps in here and there today.. That's fun. You don't really notice them, they just sorta phaten up the snare. Oh, yeah Our Pagosa gig got canceled due to the bar closing. Maybe it is a good thing we won't be playing there. We're going to look into switching places and maybe still go over to Pagosa but no guarantees there. We'll make it over there eventually. I'm sure we'll be at Wolf Creek eventually either way. Skiing, that is, not playing music. I was going to say something along the lines of "bummer it is too cold to camp any more this summer" but then i realized that these were the sissiest words to ever almost come out of my mouth, so i'll just shut up and go freeze my nuts off.

Either way, have fun

Jesse and Kelly Went Skiing
So since both of these guys are unlikely to put a blog entry here, I'll put it there for them. They were skiing on Sept 24th near Silverton, Colorado. They said the hike was nice, the first tumbles of the season were cold and that the snow was fairly shallow. Kelly gashed his ski a bit, but making turns in September, it is all worth it. Oh by the way... don't ask me to explain that funny look in his eyes.

The North County Family...
So Lisa & I had our first wedding anniversary yesterday. We were cruising around the North County playing in the hills. We planned to come back to d-town and go out for dinner at some kinda swanky joint. Instead, we stopped at the Schoolhouse for a few beers and ended up in a long episode of debauchery with the North County Folk from the A-Frame (the most prestigious gig we play) Thanks to all you guys, you gave us a great time. I ended up passing out on the couch on the porch for a while. It was frosty and lovely. I love the schoolhouse, it is a final vestige of "Real" in a place that is quickly being ruined by million dollar homes and swanky yuppies. The Schoolhouse has been resisting this horrific trend for years by being off the hook, sloppy, and just generally fun. You can tackle people, you can get tackled, you can dance on the tables. The Yuppie people come in, use a napkin to pick things up, and they're generally terrified, and that is great. Which brings me back to the A-Frame. Apparently, the newsletter at one of the more obnoxious multimillion dollar subdivisions mentioned the A-frame saying that they frequently had "Pagan Parties"... I'm SO FUCKING PROUD that we've been the official band of these "Pagan Parties" and I can't wait to play another one. I think this time all the ladies should be topless and that we should sacrifice a goat in the front yard and really freak those yuppie bastards out. The North County Family is a sleeper cell of real people in a world gone plastic. May angels sing them to their rest each night, and may their children be prosperous and fat.

Cheers
-e

More shows
So as you can see, we've got some more shows coming up. Pagosa Springs and Farmington will be exciting because we've never played in either town. Hopefully we'll get to stay at the HOT SPRINGS in Pagosa. Drop us a line and say hello.

cheers
